How to Stop Crashes in Modern Warfare PC & Xbox One – Call of Duty

Finally, the new Call of Duty game is out, and we all are so enthusiastic about playing it all day. However, you are experiencing Dev Errors, micro freezes, 100% CPU usage, or straight-up crashes in Modern Warfare.

We know the feeling. Today we will cover all known fixes for stopping crashes in Call of Duty Modern Warfare, and we start with the most common error codes, which are as follows.
  • Dev Error 6065
  • Dev Error 6066
  • Dev Error 6068

An Activision support member recently commented on Reddit, acknowledging that they are aware of the issues and working on them. For an updated list with known issues in Modern Warfare check here.

Essentially what is going is that the devs need to gather more information about the source of various stuttering, crashes, or high CPU spikes on both the PC and Xbox One.

Either way, here are some fixes that have worked for several players out there.

The BEST solution for Maximizing your FPS is CPUCores

CPUCores is a third-party software program that will improve your FPS by managing your CPU and Memory resources automatically when you start a game. It will remove the resources from programs in the background and redirect them to the game you are playing. This is not done in Windows already, and unless you have a program like CPUCores, your computer is at the mercy of all of the programs competing for your precious CPU Resources. Take control today, and Maximize your FPS.

If you are experiencing any performance issues. We would recommend before doing any in-game settings to check your operating system and graphics drivers, that can be the source of many problems related to lag, crashes, rubber band lag or stuttering.

Make sure your Windows and Nvidia or AMD drivers are up-to-date and configured correctly. You will be amazed at how often you miss a driver update for your graphics card.

After that, try running VRAM with maximum settings inside Modern Warfare and set everything else to default settings. If you are using a high-end graphics card then you can make do with a higher setting, but if VRAM is limited, then you should turn this setting down.

If that still doesn’t work, try to limit your FPS to 60 and move up from there until you experience crashes again. Or else we have to move a little deeper into windows settings.

Change priority for Modern Warfare on your PC

Start with restarting your PC, which is a good thing regardless if you have a slow or old computer. After that, start Modern Warfare, but do not do anything after entering the main menu.

Open the options and go to settings and check in the graphics tab. Here you’ll find an option called ‘shaders,’ click ‘Restart Shaders Installation‘. Once done, go into Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) or search for it on your PC.

Go the details tab, look up ‘modernwarfare.exe‘ while still having the game running, right-click, and change the priority from ‘high‘ to ‘normal.’

However, every time you start the game, you have to re-do the last step, which hopefully wouldn’t be necessary as soon as a new patch is live.

Unplug Your other Monitors if You Have Any

This might sound a little weird, but try to unplug your second or third monitor, so you only are connected to your main one.

A quick workaround from the developers themselves that will hopefully be fixed in the near future. This simple trick can help you with the 6065, 6066, 6068 error codes.

Try Lowering Graphics Settings in Call of Duty

Your hardware may be unable to cope with the game. If that is the case, then you can try and run the game at lower settings. If this does not work, then something else is wrong. Check out this guide on Modern Warfare PC Optimization to gain more FPS.

If you are having crashes, then G-Sync Or Freesync may be interfering with the game. You can try turning these off to see whether crashes go away. If you are using V-Sync, then you can disable or adjust that as well.

You may be experiencing issues because you have overclocked your graphics card. While overclocking can lead to better performance, this can lead to graphics cards being unstable. If that is the case, then you should bring the clock speed of the graphics card back to default. This might be the problem that is causing the crashes on PC.

How to Stop Modern Warfare Crashing on Xbox One

For console, you are more limited to options to try, and the most usual fix to crashes is unfortunately just waiting for a new patch from the developers.

Either way here’s a list on how you can stop crashes in Modern Warfare for Xbox One:

  1. Make sure your software is updated. If not, then be sure to download and install the latest updates.
  2. Restarting your console can make some common issues go away. To do so, press the Xbox button go to settings, and press the restart console option.
  3. Confirm this option, and the console will restart itself. You can also do this by pressing the power button on the console and holding it down for a few seconds. Once the console has powered down, you can turn it back on again.
  4. Unplug USB Devices. Devices that are plugged into your console via USB should be taken out. These may or may not be interfering with the game. You can try it out to be sure.
  5. You can try reinstalling the game. If the game is on an external drive, then you can try installing it on the internal one and vice versa. This will tell you if the issue is with your hard drive.
Here we have gone over some of the solutions that you can use in order to solve crashes and make the game more stable. Let us know if these solutions have worked for you and what your experience has been like playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare so far.

  1. I have tried most of these. maybe you can help with my issue. im running windows 10 with an i2550k and a 1070ti, and 32g of ram and a big special fan on my PROC. I’ve disabled every overlay I can. but basically when I run the game it almost seems like the game sucks up every bit of memory I have. discord starts struggling to even function. but inevitably the game always crashes. particularly once I joined a big map with tall buildings, I got like 3 FPS before the game crashing. is there a way I can monitor what exactly the issue is and diagnose this?
